Kids’ Camp General Information Location Silver Saddle Ranch and Club - Kids' Camp is located in California City, California. Our home town is nestled in the Fremont Valley which is in the north end of Antelope Valley. California City is located a short 120 miles from Los Angeles; only 220 miles from Las Vegas, Nevada. Silver Saddle offers dozens of beautiful picnic spots throughout the ranch, complete with Bar B-Q's and picnic patios. RESERVATIONS Individual prices listed on the price sheet cover the entire camp package. Check-in time is at 1:00 p.m. of the arrival day. Checkout is at 3:00 p.m. of the final day. · We recommend that reservations be booked 45 days in advance of the scheduled arrival date to assure availability of your date. Reservations are on a first come basis. Occasionally we have cancellations and in fact we can accept reservations as late as two weeks in advance. Please ask if you have less than 45 days. Since space is booked on an availability basis guests are encouraged to book as early as possible. · We only book one exclusive group to use the facilities at a time, however SSRC is a private member resort open to our individual membership for their use. It is possible to have our members using other campgrounds and resort amenities located at Silver Saddle Ranch and Club during your visit. · A 25% deposit is required when making your reservation and must be received no later than 5 business days from booking. We accept most major credit cards. The balance must be paid at least 14 days prior to your arrival. · Silver Saddle has a 14-day cancellation policy, meaning that reservations must be cancelled at least 14 days before the scheduled arrival or the deposit will be forfeited. If you reschedule for a later date, we will gladly apply your deposit for your chosen future date. SSRC will refund deposits for cancellations made with greater than 14 days notice. · Group rosters and group waiver forms are required from each organization. These are sent out to the group coordinator once your deposit has been received. They must be returned no later than when the balance is due, 14 days prior to your scheduled arrival. · A responsible adult (25 years or older) from your organization is required to be present at SSRC at all times during your group’s visit. · SSRC does not allow weapons or firearms of any kind to be brought to any Kids’ Camp function. Please leave them at home. · Please do not bring alcoholic beverages to any Kids’ Camp function. · Obviously no illegal activity of any kind is permitted. ACTIVITIES · Available activities include such things as horseback riding, archery, mini-pitch and putt golf, soccer, tennis, swimming, paddle-boating* and kayaking*, fishing, badminton, basketball, volleyball, bicycling, croquet, fresbee, horse shoes, petting zoo and children’s playground. *Depending on which activity, age restrictions may apply. · Groups can also take nature hikes and consider day excursions to Randsburg Old West Town, Red Rock Canyon, the Antelope Valley Indian Museum, one of the nearby lakes or the Kern River. · We provide wood for the campfires, although your private group leaders start and maintain the fires. There is one central campfire site, as well as individual campfires in front of each teepee. It is permissible to roast marshmallows over the fire and, in fact, marshmallows are sold at the ranch commissary. · All Kids’ Camp activities on the resort are included in the price of your package. Again, for safety reason age restrictions may apply. · We recommend bringing binoculars and telescopes. On clear nights we have the most amazing stars to view at night. Each camper receives a special stargazing chart to help them locate and recognize various starts and constellations. · There is a Camp Store on the premise just incase you forget a basic necessity or two. FOOD ·Food is served from our authentic “Chuck Wagon”, located in our camp dining area. · Our outdoor dining facility features covered picnic tables as well as comfortable grassy picnic areas, keeping with the true spirit of camping. Our facilities are clean and well maintained. · Foodservice consists of three well balanced, tasty and delicious meals served each day. · Typical meals include: Breakfast – Eggs, pancakes, hash browns, sausage or bacon, cereal, milk and juice. Lunch – Hamburgers or hot dogs or spaghetti, chips, fruit or yogurt, milk, juice or soda Dinner – Chicken or beef, potatoes, vegetables, salad bar, milk, juice or soda Special meals for specific dietary requirements can be prepared either for individuals or for the group as a whole. Please let us know in advance of arrival. There may be a slight extra charge. Groups can also do their own cooking, if they wish, but unfortunately there is no deduction from our already low camp package cost. If you do bring your own food supply, please bring adequate coolers and be prepared to refrigerate and store your food supply safely. SAFETY · Ranch staff members are CPR-trained and certified from the American Red Cross. Our security personnel are also CPR-trained. · Staff members are also First Aid trained and certified from the American Red Cross. · The nearest emergency medical care facility is North Loop Medical Facility, located approximately 15 miles away. · We are located in California City, California, which has its own police and fire departments. In addition, the Sheriff’s Department and California Highway Patrol conduct regular patrols of the area including here at SSRC. · SSRC requires that your organization must provide at least one counselor per the supervision of every 10 kids. Each counselor that you provide (per 10 kids) stays for FREE. · We will provide a knowledgeable staff member to lead interesting and informative nature walks. Staff members will also oversee all activities such as horseback riding, swimming, kayaking, etc. · Please note that for safety reasons, certain activities have age requirements and may require an adult from your organization to ‘buddy up” with them. Please ask for details. · Paddle Boating – Minimum age is 8 years old to use the paddleboats. Under 8 requires an adult to be onboard with them. · Kayaking – Minimum age is 16 years old to use the kayaking. Under 12 requires an adult to be onboard with them. Camp Ranch Hands have access to 2 way radio’s or to telephones for immediate communication with the SSRC office should any need arise including emergencies. LODGING & FACILITIES · Our authentic Teepee village can sleep a maximum of 44 campers. If you have more that 44 people you will need to bring your own tents and shelters to accommodate the additional campers. Of course the additional campers rate will be at a lower cost (see rate sheet). · Eight of the teepees can sleep four people, and two of the teepees can be expanded to sleep six. All campers, whether in tents or in teepees, are required to bring their own bedding and sleeping bags, blankets and pillows, etc. A limited number of cots are available at a small additional charge · These teepees are authentic replicas of those used by Native Americans. They provide a truly comfortable and talked about experience. · Two private restrooms facilities, with sinks and showers are located in the immediate campground area. There is one restroom for male campers and one for female campers. Each facility includes showers with privacy shower doors. Guests should bring their own soap, shampoo and personal toiletries. Additional restroom facilities are conveniently located within the resort. · If using the campground (vs. the Teepees) groups are required to bring their own tents. · Silver Saddle Ranch and Club does have a complete RV Facility with hook-ups for up to 17 RV’s. There is additional charge of $20 for the use of RV hook ups per RV. There is plenty of room for RV’s that do not require hook ups for no additional charge. We recommend RV camping be reserved for adults within your group (so as not to take away the spirit of adventure from any of the Kids.) Communications · Pay phones are available at the SSRC lodge.
